Walking wounded. / Run in the sun.

First off, I'd like to apologize for not updating the blog after our Wednesday run. I was caught up in my daughter Haven's first birthday and never got around to posting that day.

Cristal and Tegan joined us on Wednesday, even though Cristal has been nursing a sore ankle. My guess is that her ankle worked overtime while Cristal's knee was sore and she now has a compensatory injury in the form of a sore achilles.

We left the store and headed toward James Bay, but after four intervals of five minutes running and one minute walking, I told Cristal she was done and we walked back to the store. I wished we hadn't ventured so far from home, but it was actually a very nice walk. Our running map is here

By the time we had walked back, Cristal decided that she is taking the next two weeks totally off from running in order to give her body the chance to heal. Very, very wise. And although she asked my opinion and I gave it, she ultimately made this decision on her own. Smart girl. I've always believed that the toughest part about being a runner is dealing with injuries. The running is by far the easy part; when you're hobbling around and you see someone out running, it's enough to make you cry. Stay strong Cristal. Let yourself heal and we'll see you when you're ready.

This morning was beautiful and sunny and just a lovely day for a run. Christy and her daughter Elise joined us, as well as Adrienne, who left her little boy Finn at home with his Dad. We followed a similar route as Wednesday, cutting back and through Beacon Hill park before heading back to the store. Our map is here. We ran our usual five-minute intervals and our total run time (not including walks) was around thirty-six minutes.

My plan for Wednesday is to increase the run length to somewhere around 7km and our intervals to seven or eight minutes. It's a big leap, but judging by how strong the ladies were today, I'm positive it won't be a problem; if anything, we've needed to increase our interval times for a while.

On a side note, I've finally wised up and started giving my girls snacks while they are in the stroller. It has significantly reduced the amount of pushing, scratching and crying and has made my stroller-runner experience more pleasurable. Seriously, I'm surprised I didn't start doing this sooner... Better late than never, I suppose!
