Sara Joy Erickson is originally from White Rock, BC. She is married with two daughters and she founded Running Moms in January 2011.
Sara began running in 1997 and has also been an aerobics instructor and a whitewater rafting guide. She began run leading for Frontrunners Victoria in 2006 and continued until her first daughter was born in 2008. She returned to running soon after and helped out with one more run clinic before her second daughter was born in 2010.
Having been active throughout her adult life, it came as a bit of a surprise when Sara found a newfound love of running after her kids were born. "I just appreciate my body so much more now. Having kids made me realize how amazing and powerful our bodies are. Women can be so hard on themselves and believe me, I was no different. After my kids were born I made a conscious decision to focus on what I love about myself and my body instead of what I want to change. It's made me a stronger runner, both mentally and physically."
Sara's long term running goal is simple: to be a runner for the rest of her life. "I want to be out there shuffling along into my 90's. I want my grandkids to brag about their Running Grandma and I really hope I'll be a role model for my family; I hope they are inspired to be active, whether they're running or participating in any other sport or activity."
It is Running Moms' mission to accommodate all women (moms, non-moms, grandmas, etc) who want to run with a fun and encouraging group. All levels, all abilities; everyone is welcome to join Running Moms.
