Sunshine run.

Just a short run today, as all of us are running the TC 10K on Sunday. We ran 4.1 km in 27 minutes without walk breaks and you can view the route here.

It was so nice to have all four of us (Cristal, Adrienne, Christy and me) out today with our kids. We were quite the train of strollers and in my mind I kept calling us the Chariot Brigade. It was an enjoyable run and I made sure to get a photo with all of us once we returned to the store.

And of course, I couldn't resist getting pics of all the little ones. :) Good luck to everyone running the TC 10K this weekend!

Countdown to Sunday.

Last couple of runs before the TC 10K on Sunday! Cristal, Adrianne and I are all planning to run the race, so I wanted to keep the run at around five kilometres today. ...But I just couldn't help but throw in a couple good hills. Add to that the fact that we ran the route without any walk breaks, and it became quite a good workout.

Our total run time was around thirty-five minutes and you can view our route here.

I'm not going to pretend and say that I'm looking forward to the race. To be honest, I find 10K's pretty brutal; I always end up pushing myself really hard and never really feel like I settle into my pace. I'm almost always more excited about half marathons because although they are tough, I always find that I hit my stride somewhere around the 10K mark. I guess I'm either just better at training for the half, or am more suited to that distance. Same diff, I guess.

We will run once more on Friday and I promise the route will be flatter and slightly shorter. Promise!

Sure I'll run. Why not?

I don't usually run with Running Moms on Mondays, but when Cristal mentioned she was hoping to get out for a run, I said I would join her. I am so glad I did!

There is nothing like Spring rain, no wind and mild temperatures. Yeah, we got wet, but we never felt overheated and we were never cold. Just perfect! We took it easy, ran ten-and-ones, and enjoyed every minute. You can view our route here. Our total time was fifty-three minutes; fifty-eight including walk breaks.

Thanks, Cristal! Can't wait for tomorrow. :)

Couldn't have asked for a nicer day.

There's no other way to say it: What a beautiful day! Very little wind, bright sunshine, perfect temperature. And to top it off, Cristal has finally rejoined the group after a two-and-a-half week break to let her ankle heal. She was a rockstar out there today; we ran some long intervals and she did great. So good to have her back!

Our intervals were kinda all over the place this morning. Cristal's daughter Tegan was not entirely happy about being in the stroller and cried for most of the run (it was breaking my heart!), so we had a couple extended breaks. We started out running eight-and-ones, but ended up running through a couple of our walk breaks. Our longest interval was around eleven minutes.

You can view our route map here. Our total run time was around forty-five minutes; forty-eight minute including walks. I'm not including the extended baby-breaks in the total time. ;)

Days like today make me very excited for the summer and very excited for growing this group and taking advantage of the amazing weather. Let's hope today's weather is a good omen. Think warm, sunny thoughts!

So glad I didn't back out.

What a crazy morning. I registered Sonja for preschool today at our local recreation centre. Since there were only a few spots remaining, and since the recreation centre opens at 5.30am, I got up and went down there at 3am to be sure we got a spot. Yes, I am one of those Moms. :) You do what you gotta do... And besides, I wasn't the first person there!

As a result of my pre-dawn outing, I was a bit of a tired mess this morning, but my lovely husband was kind enough to let me sleep in for a couple of hours. So very grateful! Even with the sleep, I can't say I was chomping at the bit to run this morning. When I found out that Christy and Elise weren't coming, I thought, "Well, if Adrianne and Finn can't come, I might actually be happy not to go." As usual, things don't work out that way, and in the end, Adrianne convinced me that I would feel better if we got out for the run. And as usual, the run always makes everything feel a hundred times better. Every time I'm talking myself out of a run, I conveniently forget that the worst runs are the ones you back out of.

Thanks so much, Adrianne!! I know that if I hadn't run, I would have kicked myself about it for the rest of the day. And isn't that what Running Moms is all about? From time to time, we all need that reason to get us out the door, or else we may not go at all. I was proof of that today!

Finally a photo of sweet, (not-so) little Finn! You did great today, buddy.

We ran a bit of a shorter route today, you can view it here. Our intervals were eight minutes running, one minute walking and our total time was around forty-two minutes (forty-six minutes including the walk breaks).

April 22nd is Good Friday and I'm so excited that we will be welcoming Cristal back to the group! Her ankle and knee are feeling much better and I'm hoping she's had enough rest that the injuries will not recur. Fingers crossed.

If you are planning to join us on Friday, please remember that Frontrunners is observing holiday hours and won't be open until 11am. We will be running at 10am as usual and I hope to see you there!

Those long, gradual hills are kinda killer.

Warmer weather is coming, right? Not that I mind the cooler weather for running, I'm just thinking of the other things I'd like to be doing, like taking the kids to the park to go on the swings and stuff like that. C'mon Spring! Be nice to us!

It was a momentous run for Adrianne today, her first time running with Finn in their brand-new Chariot running stroller. I felt a bit bad since I chose a not-so-easy route for today's run, but she and Finn did a fantastic job: Finn slept, Adrianne ran the whole route no problem.

We ran intervals of eight minutes running and one minute walking. Our total running time was around forty-five minutes, fifty minutes including the walks. You can view the route here. I have to hand it to Christy and Adrianne, they really ran strong up those long, gradual hills. I know it isn't easy, especially while pushing a stroller. Great job, Ladies!

As a final thought, I just want to make it clear to all you Moms thinking of joining the group that you by no means have to run with a Chariot. It's a coincidence that we are all running with Chariots! All strollers are welcome. :)

Longer runs.

Today was the day. We increased our run intervals from five minutes to eight minutes and increased our run distance from around five kilometres to just over seven kilometres. Today's route was really fun, going out to toward Oak Bay before ducking down into Fairfield and heading back to the store. Check it out here. Our total run time, not including walk breaks, was around forty-three minutes. If I include the breaks, the total time was around forty-eight minutes.

Adrianne was the only other Mom to join Sonja and Haven and I today, so we were a small group, especially considering that Adrianne was running without her son, Finn. It was just a lovely day for a run, with no rain, no wind, a thinly overcast sky and mild temperatures. The pace was casual, giving us plenty of opportunity to chat; my favourite kind of running.

I really hope to see this group grow as we approach the summer and the weather gets even nicer. If you have been thinking of joining us but have any questions or concerns, please contact me anytime. My contact info is located on the Run With Us! page or on the right-hand column of the blog.

Hope to see you soon!

This is what Moms who run without their Babies look like after the run:
relieved that when they call home, everything is OK.

Uh oh... Traffic jam at the water cooler.
